As technology continually impacts the landscape of human resources, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a common tool for the process of recruitment.
AI is reshaping the way companies find talent, and HR Resolutions is embracing the technology. But we’re also holding tight to what makes hiring truly work, and that’s establishing a human connection.
“AI can be a helpful tool to streamline initial resume reviews, especially for high application volume roles in fields such as warehousing, administration and – as a matter of fact – human resource positions,” says Melissa Melnick, recruiter and generalist at HR Resolutions. “Efficiently filtering candidates to exclude those who don’t meet basic criteria saves countless hours, enabling us to reinvest time into delivering personalized services to clients and their candidates.”
However, AI is far from perfect.
AI can only glean so much from an electronic resume or application form. Sometimes a candidate’s application might not use the right keywords, or their experience might be a little nontraditional, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the right fit.
HR Resolutions’ philosophy is simple: AI assists, but we have the final say.
“We use AI as a soft screener and to organize and score incoming resumes, but our team manually reviews candidates we feel may be a good fit, even if they don’t ‘score’ perfectly,” Melissa says. “We believe in taking a second look and having deeper conversations with candidates for our clients, especially for management and specialized positions. We treat AI as a starting point, not a final decision-maker.”
Once AI helps organize and score resumes, the HR Resolutions team steps in. We review, reevaluate, and connect with candidates who show potential, even if the AI algorithm doesn’t flag them.
At the end of the day, hiring is about people. It’s about finding individuals who not only check the boxes but also align with clients’ values, culture, and future vision. This takes empathy, insight, and real conversations.
“Industries and the job market continually shift, candidate pools tighten, and companies are always under pressure to find the right talent,” Melissa adds. “AI helps us move faster, but it’s our team’s ability to read between the lines and resumes that ensures success for our clients.”
When roles prove difficult to fill or response rates drop, HR Resolutions revisits candidates that AI filtered out. The team refines job postings, rethinks outreach strategies, and stays flexible.
“Technology evolves, and so does our team, but never at the expense of the personal service we’re known for,” Melissa affirms. “It’s our people who power the process.”
The key, Melissa emphasizes, is using AI responsibly.
While the HR Resolutions team doesn’t rely on AI to make final decisions, use of AI has had a measurable impact by providing faster screening, reducing time spent on unqualified resumes, and resulting in higher-quality candidates presented to clients.
“Looking ahead, we know AI will continue to grow in capability; however, we also believe it can never fully replace human empathy, intuition, and judgment,” Melissa says. “AI is great, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t have a heartbeat.”
Bottom line: AI can help us move faster and smarter, but never stop listening, asking thoughtful questions, and making meaningful human connections for long-term success.
